About Us

The Red Radish

While supporting local growers and artisans, The Red Radish Natural Foods strives to provide organic and natural foods, as well as a wide range of other natural products that promote a healthy way of living and are produced in an ecologically sound and sustainable manner.  The Red Radish also serves as an educational resource for the community by offering classes and forums on topics ranging from artisan bread-making to Zen meditation.  Ejaye, Chrissy and Cindy will also do their best to provide you with timely and well-researched answers to your questions.

Inside The Red Radish Natural Foods

The Red Radish opened its doors to a community hungry for real food and other natural products on January 2nd, 2003.  What a way to kick off the New Year!

The inspiration for the Red Radish came from the difficulties encountered by Ejaye and Chrissy when trying to find healthy food with which to nurture their growing families.  The concept for The Red Radish was hatched in August of 2002, on a road trip to a natural foods show in Iowa City.  Even with four kids and two husbands along for the ride, the trip offered the founders ample opportunity to set the wheels in motion.  The ride to the show was peppered with exploratory comments like: "Do you think Neenah could sustain a natural food store?" and "What do you suppose is involved in launching a business?"  The excitement and commitment to the effort mounted throughout the weekend and the zealous conversation during the ride home sounded more like: "We HAVE to do this!"  and "I'm SURE it will succeed!"  Needless to say, the six hour return trip was filled with non-stop brainstorming, planning and pure excitement.

Five months later, The Red Radish was born!  The whirlwind of meetings, phone calls, paperwork and product research that began upon return from the food show has truly obliterated the term "Stay-at-Home Mom!"

Ejaye, Chrissy & Cindy

The Red Radish is owned by Ejaye Gilbert and Chrissy Goethel.  Ejaye and Chrissy are both full-time moms (and then some!) who are passionate about nourishing the health and vitality of their families with pure and natural foods.  They also believe very strongly in using products that promote well-being and result in a minimal impact on our ecosystem, both in their use and production.  Prior to opening The Red Radish, Ejaye and Chrissy formed the core of the With The Grain natural foods buying club.

Ejaye Gilbert: Co-owner

Chrissy Goethel: Co-owner

Ejaye & Chrissy have gained experience in a healthy way of life through the raising of their families on natural and organic food purchases made through their home buying club.  They also have their own chemical-free produce gardens and purchase their grass-fed beef, free-range chickens and eggs from a local ranch.  On-going education comes from you, our customers.  Thanks in great part to all of you, each day brings with it a new pearl of wisdom, sensation of excitement and the supreme satisfaction that comes with providing the products that you value.

Cindy Knigge: Manager

The Red Radish is managed by Cindy Knigge.  Cindy has over 20 years of experience in the natural food industry and in customer service.  She has helped to open three new natural food stores.  She has taught numerous cooking classes and orchestrated many in-store community events such as grand openings, open houses and anniversary sales.  Cindy is a licensed massage therapist and certified reflexologist.  Cindy has been practicing reflexology for over 10 years and has operated her massage therapy and reflexology business for the last 7 years.  Cindy is also trained in Raindrop Therapy and is a Reiki Master.  Cindy has a bodywork room within The Red Radish, so please feel free to make an appointment!

Cindy came to us in December of 2002 from beautiful Door County, Wisconsin.  We are extremely grateful to her for mustering up the incredible courage and positive-thinking that it took to leave her life and business in Door County to bring her knowledge, skills and warmth to The Red Radish Natural Foods!

Our Home

Home of The Red Radish Natural Foods

The wonderful building that is now home to The Red Radish Natural Foods was built for the Hewitt family in 1900.  The owners prior to The Red Radish relayed a fond memory of Mrs. Hewitt as the Hewitt's grandson recalled his grandmother sitting in the living room and watching the traffic on Commercial Street.

In August of 1994, the building was purchased by The White Cart from Terry Zesch, a real-estate broker who operated her business out of the building.  The White Cart added the newer rear portion of the building, deck and wheel chair ramp, expanded and black-topped the parking lot at that time.

In November of 2002, the building was purchased by The Red Radish Natural Foods.

As you can see, our building records are a bit sparse, please let us know if you have any information to share about our home!
