In walks Blaine Schultz, a happy free spirit, young and tanned with sunbleached hair and an inch of dried mud on his boots.  “Look at this red lettuce, isn’t it amazing!”  He’s genuinely thrilled.  Blaine’s a hard working local farmer, growing produce for his community and lovin’ it!

Blaine manages Oakridge Farm in Neenah using the most stringent organic farming principles.  His produce is grown with all natural and organic seed (much of which is heirloom seed) and uses only environmentally sound, sustainable techniques.  Plant varieties are selected for their exceptional flavor and harvested at their peak.

And have you heard the buzz about Blaine’s honey?  It isn’t heated past 120 degrees, ensuring the benefits of its healthy enzymes.  Using local honey can help us combat allergies, and it’s yummy too!

Produce doesn’t have to be picked early and travel across the country for us, we’ve got an excellent local sustainable grower right here!  Check our produce section for Blaine’s seasonal bounty, and enjoy.

~The Buzz on Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly and  Bee Propolis~

Bee Pollen is rich in protein, B-complex vitamins, Vitamin C, essential fatty acids, enzymes, carotene, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and manganese.  It is considered an energy and nutritive tonic.  It has been used for a variety of purposes including assisting recovery from chronic illness, building new blood, improving endurance and vitality, counteracts the effects of aging, reduce hunger and cravings and fortifies the body against illnesses.  It has also been used against fatigue, depression, cancer and colon disorders.  It is important to start with small doses and watch for any reactions as some have reported allergy symptoms connected with its use.

Royal Jelly is fed to an ordinary female bee who then becomes a Queen Bee.  This substance contains all of the B-complex vitamins, including high concentration of pantothenic acid (B5) needed for the adrenal glands and pyridoxine (B6).  Royal Jelly also contains mineral, enzymes and Vitamins A, C, D and E.  It is useful for asthma, liver & kidney disease, insomnia, skin disorder and it strengthens the immune system.  Royal Jelly spoils easily.  Buy it in a tightly sealed jar and refrigerate after opening.

Bee Propolis is an excellent aid against bacterial infections. Inflammation of mucous membranes of mouth and throat, dry cough, tonsillitis, ulcers, acne and stimulation of the immune system.

Staff Tip!

Putting honey on wounds helps them to heal faster.  It also reduces the chance of infections and doesn’t sting to put on!

Moving On!

Cindy has been a very important part of The Red Radish since we opened.  Now it is time for Cindy to move back to Door County.  We would like to thank her for all the long hours and hard work she put into the store helping to get us up on our feet.  We couldn’t have done it without her.  She will be missed very much by us, our staff and most of all, our customers.

Even though we are sad to see Cindy go, we very excited about our new staff.  You will be seeing more of Amy, Alyssum and Erika.  We would also like to introduce our new staff members, Carol and Staci.  They are all very enthusiastic about natural foods, natural living, and learning.  They will welcome you into our store and help you find answers to any questions you may have.

Also, we would like to welcome Ryan and Chrissy’s new baby.  He should be arriving any day now!
